Privacy Policy & Data Handling
Project Vaani is currently an evolving desktop prototype. This document describes our data minimization architecture, local storage mechanics, and external provider interactions.
1. Core Architectural Principle
We believe desktop productivity tools must give users full custody over their voice and written thoughts. The desktop application prototype does not run proprietary tracking beacons, marketing telemetry, or hidden audio scrapers. This public marketing website uses Vercel Web Analytics exclusively for aggregate, privacy-friendly page-view metrics without cookies or personal data collection.
2. Local Inference Mode (whisper.cpp & Ollama)
When you configure Vaani to use the whisper-local adapter and ollama-local:
- Your microphone audio buffers remain exclusively in macOS memory and on local storage.
- Zero audio packets, transcripts, or transformed texts are sent to remote servers.
- History entries, dictionary words, and custom snippets are stored strictly in local JSON files on your hard drive.
3. Cloud AI Mode (OpenAI Whisper & GPT-4o-mini)
If you choose to enable cloud processing using your own API credentials:
- Your API keys are stored locally on your Mac and are never routed through our servers.
- Temporary audio chunks are sent directly from your device to OpenAI endpoints over encrypted HTTPS.
- Data transmission is subject to OpenAI's API data usage policies (OpenAI does not train on API inputs by default).
- Vaani never sells, aggregates, or brokers your dictation streams.
4. Early Access Waitlist Data
When you submit the early access registration form on this website:
- We collect only your submitted email address, primary operating system, and indicated use case.
- This information is used solely to issue early access build invitations and notify you of release milestones.
- You may request complete removal of your registration from our records at any time.
5. Website Analytics Disclosure (Vercel Web Analytics)
This public marketing website runs @vercel/analytics to measure aggregate page visits, referral sources, and high-level device types. Vercel Web Analytics is privacy-friendly by design:
- It sets zero tracking cookies on your device.
- It does not collect or log personal identifiable information (PII) or IP addresses (IPs are discarded after extracting coarse region).
- It does not track users across websites or construct user profiles.
- The desktop application prototype is completely separate and does not connect to Vercel Analytics.
6. Contact & Inquiries
For questions regarding data security, security disclosures, or early access data removal, reach out via the early access form notes or to the maintainers of Project Vaani.
